For more than ten years, I've been involved in writing adult fiction as "Salty Vixen", primarily as a contributing author. In my role as an editor, I frequently encounter challenges related to point of view, punctuation, plot development, character arcs, continuity, sentence structure, verb tense, and overall coherence of the story. It always disheartens me to see submissions where the wrong word is chosen. Whether it's due to a genuine misunderstanding of the correct term or simply a lack of careful proofreading, these mistakes often catch the reader's eye more than any other grammatical errors.

In my experience, I've noticed that many people say they aren't bothered by poor grammar in literature, whether they're writing or reading it. Their main focus is on one thing, and they can easily ignore the occasional misuse of words, even if it happens repeatedly by the same writer. That works for some folks. However, I believe there are others who agree with me that taking a bit more time to proofread can enhance the story and attract more readers who might become fans. On the flip side, poor grammar can have the opposite effect.

Spellcheck can't find incorrect word usage, only misspellings. And even having your document-writing program check grammar isn't infallible. When in doubt, ask someone else with a fresh pair of eyes to review your story.
