Your Makeup Bag: Just The Essentials

If you catch yourself traveling with a duffle bag full of products then you’re carrying too much! Nearly every woman since time began carries with them a cosmetic bag of some kind. In most instances a woman will refuse to leave the home without it, but they tend to be bulky and overstuffed. Over thinking your cosmetic choices could lead to unnecessary wrist and back strain as you lug the case around with you.

The questions we always ask are: “What exactly should we bring? How much is too much, and what isn’t enough?”

If you’re trucking around any separate container larger than your fist then it’s certainly too much. Sponges and brushes are only really useful at home and you really don’t need 50 kinds of lipstick or eye shadow. Only take with you what you started with that morning. If you’re staying the night some place then pack product you normally use with what you’re planning on wearing.

Though a lot of women tend to change makeup from night and day it isn’t necessary to pack the complete salvo of product. Carry lipstick or lip gloss of a slightly darker (or lighter) shade for the day/night changeover. A concealer and eyeliner for fast touch ups should be all that is required.

Now that we’ve established what you don’t need (a separate bag with wheels just for makeup) let’s discuss just what the essentials are. It’s best to keep in mind that you are only enhancing the makeup you are already wearing and sometimes a light touch is all you need.

Under eye concealer, high quality lip stick or gloss, loose powder compact and gel blush are the choices that will work best. I know, “What about mascara?” good question! Mascara should not be applied over existing applications so it really is not needed.

It’s a wise idea to periodically check your bag’s contents as the makeup ages over time and can wear out.

Keeping with the minimalist approach will leave you having everything you need to continue looking fresh. It will also allow you to avoid aggravating injuries by carrying a much lighter load.
